solenoid interlock AZM40

Schmersal presents smallest electronic solenoid interlock in the world With dimensions of 119.5 x 40 x 20 mm, the AZM40 is the smallest electronic solenoid interlock in the world. This makes it especially suitable for small safety doors and flaps. Thanks to the 180° angle flexibility of the actuator, it can approach the AZM40 on a stepless basis, making the interlock also suitable for flaps which do not close at 90° or those that open upwards to a 45° angle. This means the angle flexibility helps the interlock easily fit into compact spaces and those which are difficult to access. The AZM40 can also be fitted to standard 40 mm profiles without projecting. “The solenoid interlock meets the requirements of many users looking for space-saving solutions, as space required is a decisive cost factor in production,” explains Stephan Frick, Product Manager at Schmersal. Despite its compact size, the AZM40 has an amazing 2000 Newton interlocking force. “An interlock must be selected to withstand the anticipated forces. With interlocking force of 2000 Newtons, users are on the safe side with respect to the recommendations in the standard,” explains Stephan Frick. Thee integrated RFID technology allows a coding level of “high”. This means the interlock offers increased tamper protection in accordance with the requirements of DIN ISO 14119. The AZM40 works on the bistable principle: In the event of a power cut, it retains the current position. This ensures safe operation, whatever the status of the machine. Even if there are hazardous run-on movements, the safety door remains safely locked in the event of a power failure. Another advantage of the bistable principle is the consistently low energy consumption, as the interlock only requires power when the door is to be locked or unlocked. For applications with personnel protection (interlock monitored), the safety outputs are switched on when the safety door is closed and the interlock locked. The AZM40B model (actuator monitored) can be used for applications with process protection. In this variant, the safety outputs are actuated as soon as the safety door is closed. With this device, locking the interlock is not absolutely necessary.

PROTECT PSC1 safety controller

Programmable, modular, multifunctional and cost-saving The PROTECT PSC1 safety controller is compact, has a modular structure and can be used extremely flexibly. The PSC1 makes it possible to project tailor-made safety-related solutions, whether for individual machines or highly complex installations. Furthermore, the PSC1 can make a contribution towards the realisation of Industry 4.0 concepts. The PROTECT PSC1 consists of freely programmable compact PLCs with IO extension modules for signal processing of mechanical and electronic safety switchgear. The compact controllers can be equipped with a universal communication interface. This enables the selection and implementation of different fieldbus protocols easily using software. The PSC1 therefore only requires one hardware element to create a connection to most common forms of fieldbus systems – which is a significant advantage, particularly considering aspects of cost. The modular structure of the new Schmersal control system is of interest particularly with regard to Industry 4.0 concepts. The aim here, among other things, is to produce individualised products up to single units cost effectively. To achieve this, modularly assembled systems are often needed in which control functions are distributed on smaller, decentralised units that are networked together. Here, the PSC1 from Schmersal offers the means to configure individual protection systems on a software basis. Furthermore, safe communication between different PSC1 controllers is facilitated via Ethernet SDDC (Safe Device to Device Communication). This simplifies the setup of complex, multi-part installations with networked safety subsystems. Another advantage of PSC1: Owing to the optionally integrated SD bus gateway, additional non-secure diagnostic signals from connected sensors can be transmitted via a standard bus system to an automation control system. This also allows signals to be evaluated that are relevant for preventing downtimes and increasing plant availability – and this in turn facilitates a rise in efficiency.

safety field box SFB-PN-IRT-8M12-IOP

Simple installation solution for complex machines: safety field box with PROFINET/PROFIsafe field bus Interface The Schmersal Group is presenting its new safety field box SFB-PN-IRT-8M12-IOP at SPS IPC Drives 2018 in Nuremberg. Set for launch onto the market in 2019, this safety field box for PROFINET/PROFIsafe systems is suitable for simple plug and play installation of up to eight safety devices. Thanks to its universal device interface with an 8-pole M12 connector, it can be used to connect a wide variety of safety devices: electronic and electro-mechanical safety interlocks, switches, sensors, light curtains and operation panels. Safety devices by other manufacturers can also be easily connected, using an adapter, for example. The safety signals from connected safety devices are forwarded to a safety controller for evaluation via the secure PROFINET/PROFIsafe field bus interface. PROFIsafe is the functionally safe extension to standard communication via PROFINET. PROFIsafe-based communication is protected against alteration, transmission errors, changes in the telegram sequence and similar. Parallel transmission of safety signals allows safety devices to be freely linked in the safety controller. Field box device connections can also be configured to link different devices, thus providing maximum flexibility in the conceptual design of safety solutions. What's more, all device connections also feature a self-resetting fuse element to protect lines. After eliminating an overcurrent in a connection, the fuse element resets itself after a brief cool-down period. Advantages of the safety field box ""The safety field box is a simple, inexpensive installation solution which provides highly flexible, individually configurable safety solutions for complex machines and systems,"" states Udo Weber, Safety Technology Product Manager at Schmersal. ""Moreover, additional transmission of all diagnosis signals from connected devices ensures optimum process transparency."" The advantages of the safety field box in brief: As a simple plug and play solution, it ensures rapid fitting and cost-efficient, fail-safe installation with little wiring.
